Henchcat Name: Puck
Gender: Tom
Age: Adult (~23 human years)
Relation to Mac: Employee, trouble-maker
Description: Puck is a fair sized but lean orange and black tabby. Though his coat is mainly a golden orange color, it is lined with dark black stripes, the most distinctive of which is one that runs down the back of his head rather like a mohawk. He also has three black forearms/paws, leaving only the front right completely orange. His eyes are a bright green, and his fur is usually in some state of disarray, due to his vagrant nature. He also sports a faded, dirty, black bandana around his neck in place of a collar.
Drawing: (I have a rough drawing, but can this be a make-up photo or computer graphic as well? I will get one up shortly once I know what my options are.)
History:Puck was born to an alley cat on the wrong side of town. She made her home down by the docks on the corner of the delivery route for the trucks and the main street, and made her way in a rather seedy pub doing ‘less than respectable’ business with other cats in the area. His father had been a wandering tom left behind when his humans had moved on without him, and who would continually return to profess his love and desire to his mother, who honestly could care less as she was use to such affronts and thought it was ‘bad for business’. So too, apparently, was having a young kitten around, and in his young life Puck was generally left to fend for himself, finding what he could on the street. Also from a young age he was found to be exceedingly curious and jittery, not so much afraid, but filled with a sort of nervous energy that came from having to watch your back all the time from incoming delivery trucks and drunken pub crawlers who couldn’t tell a walking cat from a hole in the street. He soon got used to living on the street and fending for himself, and almost preferred it that way than to trying to squeeze himself in to his mother’s life. Occasionally his father would spend time with him (which he greatly appreciated, though it was rare that he showed it, especially to anyone except his father) on one of his visits to propose to his mother, and that he enjoyed.
However, on one such night tragedy struck, and after being rejected once again by his mother, his father wandered aimlessly back out into the street and was struck down by a drunk driver leaving the pub. At that point Puck had had enough, and after chewing out his mother for being so careless, he ran away and never looked back. He was an older kitten then, verging on adolescence, when Macavity found him. He had made a way for himself, wandering from street to street like a vagrant, though in truth he had become quite good at acquiring what he needed to survive on short notice. It was a talent that Macavity recognized, and he was soon commissioned as one of his hench cats. From them on Puck vowed he would never care or let anyone get that close to him as to go through what his mother did to his father, or even get close enough to his victims. Instead, he channeled the hatred he held towards his mother and towards careless humans into his work for Macavity as a sort of morbid therapy. He has told no one about his actual past to this day, and usually makes up a different story each time he is asked.
Personality:Puck at his best is a prankster and a nuisance, and at his worst is a deceitful and dangerous cat that lives up to his role as one of Macavity’s henches. He lives his life for his own reasons and pleasures, and finds himself very easily bored, whether that be due to his short attention span or the nervous energy that seems to constantly move through this restless tiger tabby. He can be ruthless and cunning on cue, and tends to lie to most people he meets, more for the fun of it than for anything he feels he needs to hide. Even when out on missions for his ‘boss’ (and he uses the term loosely, as he feels he can leave Macavity whenever he pleases, despite imminent threats), he sometimes loses interest and will ignore the current plan of action if something more interesting peaks his fancy (which annoys Macavity to no end).
Given his chosen lifestyle, Puck is somewhat of a loner, though even as a young kit he was never any good at making close friends. His deceptive and somewhat cocky, self-sufficient nature makes it hard for him to make any real friends, but he tells himself that doesn’t bother him. He feels it’s easier not to have any permanent ties, because no one can hurt you that way, and all the decisions you make are completely your own, not tainted by concern or opinions of others.
Despite his somewhat morbid tendencies at times and the apparent delight he takes in carrying out Macavity’s orders, Puck is really good at heart, and even Macavity goes too far sometimes for his taste. He draws the line at torturing kittens and ‘invasions of a more personal nature’, though he often plays along until the last possible moment as to keep his current position.
Faults: For one, Puck does not let anyone get truly close to him, or to get to know the real him for that matter. As such he is secretly lonely sometimes, but tries his best not to let it show. He has a hard time admitting his own short-comings, and his cocky attitude often supersedes logic when it comes to making decisions in certain situations, often landing him in trouble and at times in over his head. He is also excessively distractible, though mostly by his own whims and fancies, and it is hard to keep his attention on any one thing for very long as he is easily bored. Lastly, he prefers to do things spur of the moment, and often does not have a serious plan (or the ability to stick to one) before going in to something.
