I would like to discuss fan fiction with you. More specifically, CATS fan fiction. Most/some of you know already I am in the process of writing my own. It's been years that I've been talking about it that most of you probably chalk it up to fiction. (no pun intended) Well it does exist, but because of my ambition it is taking longer than planed. You can read about my progress here: A Jellicle Writer's DiaryI was just wondering; what fan fics do you like/read? What's your all time favorite? Why is it your favorite? What story-lines are your fav.? Which are overdone? Just talk about CATS fan fics! I really need some honest CATS fans to talk with about this. I can talk with writers, but they don't understand the CATS universe completely. Not like all of you. Also; What theories do you side with? What are the 'rules' regarding The Heavyside and Everlasting? What does it mean to be Jellicle? How does Mistoffelees' magic work? Do the twins have magic? How does the line of succession work? Invite people to this discussion, join it yourself, I want to talk and debate with you.

Wow, there's a lot that could be talked about here. Where to start? I guess my favorite fics are the ones that rely heavily on character interaction and development, rather than a lot of action. Though I've read lots of Cats fanfics now, I don't know of any specific ones that come to mind as the 'best' fic I've read. My favorite character is Mistoffelees, so anything with him I like, lol. I'm also a fan of the Mistoffelees/Vicky pairing, as I think this is most likely, at least from the video version, but I know not everyone agrees with me on that. I also like seeing some of the lesser-used characters developed, like Etcetera, Pouncival, Tumblebrutus, etc. I like fics wherein they all sort of hang out as a group of friends, because that meshes with my vision of how they're all related. I see them all as around the same age, and would likely to be inclined to play with one another. I'm also a sucker for good family storylines, and I often like stories that look at family development from several stages, either in having both young and older, more well established families present at the same time for comparison, or watching the evolution of one family/set of relationships over time.
As far as some of your other questions/prompts, I belive that all Jellicles have some innate connection to the Everlasting. I feel as though this special connection is what makes them Jellicles, and that each of them has been bestowed with their own gifts, whether it be particular talent in singing, dancing, helping others, etc. I think that kittens within the tribe each discover their own gifts as they grow, and in doing so go through sort of a right of passage into becoming adults and accepting themselves and finding who they are and their own unique place in the tribe. That being said, every so often a kitten is blessed with a special gift that goes beyond the ordinary variety we see, such as Mistoffelees with his magic, or perhaps the twins with their telepathy. I believe that these Cats have a specially strong connection to the Everlasting, which is why they can sense things prematurely, and why they have been given these extrordinary powers. However, to take a page from Spiderman, I believe that 'with great power comes great responsibility'. I think that maybe this special connection with the Everlasting (whether they believe it to be an actual entity, or just a greater, sort of Force like continuity) comes with a specific plan in mind, as if it should be used for a specific purpose/destiny eventually, though those that possess these powers may not know what it is or see that end until the time is upon them. Maybe that's all too mystical, but I enjoy storylines that operate along those lines, and I feel it can fit with a lot of established canon from the video, show, etc. To sum up, I guess I feel that being Jellicle means having this connection to the Everlasting, and learning to appreciate it and use it for the good of the whole, rather than just for your own purposes. Anybody agree? Disagree?
I'd love to discuss more about Mistoffelees magic at some point, but I have to reconcile some of my more specific ideas before I comment specifically on that more than I already have XD.

I believe all Jellicles have connections to the Heavyside and Everlasting...some stronger than others. Some can read human English, others can create magic potions, some have stronger senses, and others can foretell the future. (I don't subscribe to the twins having telepathy...I do think they each have their own deep powers that are slightly different. Their 'in-sync' attitude is just a result of being twins.) Jellicles have 9 lives that their soul can be born into, that is only if they are sent to the Heavyside Layer. If they get killed or die of natural causes they stay in the Heavyside for good and new soul is created. Jellicles rarely get born back into the same tribe, that way their soul gets different life experiences. Once your ninth life is up (if you get that far) you stay in the Heavyside and a new soul is created.
What else can we talk about? Past parents of the Jellicles? (cause I have that all 'figured out' and is the basis of my fic...it's a history story)
