I was lunching one day at the Princess Louise When I passed some remark to a man in white spats Who had ordered a plate of fried gammon and peas And we soon fell to talking of thises and thats
Such as Pollicle dogs and Jellicle Cats Pollicle dogs and Jellicle Cats Pollicle dogs and Jellicle Cats Pollicle dogs and Jellicle Cats.
He said I've been here confided a jack of all trades, A true rolling stone that has gathered no moss. I have seen most of life in its various shades And the fat and the lean and the profit and loss. I have done everything, and I've been everywhere. I'm at present an agent of small furnished flats. But the one thing that makes life worthwhile, I declare, Is Pollicle dogs and Jellicle Cats.
Now my sister, for instance, who lives in the hills, That lie on the border of Shropshire and Wales In a comfortable house, where her husband fulfills His vocation of retail purveyor of ales. She says that for me, I've no reason to doubt Her opinion, repeated in dozens of chats. She says there is one thing she can't do without And that's Pollicle dogs, and Jellicle Cats.
This originally was going to be the first poem in Elliot's book, 'the man in white spats' was supposed to be telling the other person/the reader about the cats.

If you have the 2 disk DVD you can see ALW singing it and playing piano during one of the behind the scenes bits.

Man, I knew I should've gotten that 2 disc dvd! I saw it when I was in London, but since I already had the one disc version I didn't think I'd need that... But now it sounds like a very nice thing to own... ;D

I saw that! The 2-disc DVD is definitely worth owning for the avid cats fan. I believe in it he said something about turning this poem into the Bustopher Jones character? I could be mistaken on that. But I know originally he said he was going to have this character sort of tell the story of the Jellicle Cats before he settled on just having cats in the show. I'm glad he went with that decision.

SO true the 2 disc set it worth every penny !! it used to "live" in my dvd player back in CA .. I use the makeup clip constantly to show my friends about the show ...
My Only gripe about the the whole DVD is they did not put a chapter break before Mr Misto ,,, So I have to FF through Macavity to get to Misto ..
